How PawGuide UK started
We got Rexx, our Cocker Spaniel, three and a half years ago. Like most first-time Cocker owners, we went straight online looking for advice — what to feed him, which insurance was worth paying for, whether his ear infections were normal. What we found was mostly American content that recommended US brands, linked to products unavailable in the UK, or was clearly just a paid placement dressed up as a review.
Then Klaus arrived — a Rottweiler puppy, seven months old and already enormous. Same problem. The Rottweiler guides we found were either completely generic or written for show breeders rather than ordinary UK owners trying to do the right thing.
So we built the resource we wished had existed. Every guide on PawGuide UK is written for real UK owners: UK products, UK prices, UK insurance policies, and advice that reflects what it's actually like to own these breeds in Britain.
Meet Klaus & Rexx
The two dogs behind every guide we write — they test the products, inspire the articles, and are generally the reason this whole thing exists.
Klaus
Our seven month old Rottweiler. Absolutely enormous, completely soft, and currently eating roughly his own bodyweight in kibble every week. Inspires every guide in our Rottweiler section.
Rexx
Our three and a half year old tri colour Cocker Spaniel. The original inspiration for the site, and the reason we know more about ear infections and grooming than we ever expected to.
How we write our guides
Every guide on PawGuide UK follows the same approach. We start with what we've personally experienced with Klaus and Rexx, then layer in proper research — reading ingredient labels, checking insurance policy small print, reviewing vet guidance from UK organisations like the PDSA and RCVS.
📋 Our promise: we never accept payment to rank a product higher. We use affiliate links (Amazon Associates and select others) which earn us a small commission if you buy — but our rankings are based entirely on merit. If something is rubbish, we say so.
We also update our guides regularly. Prices change, products get reformulated, and insurance premiums shift year to year. We review our most popular articles every few months to make sure the advice is still accurate.
What makes us different
UK specific, always
Every product we recommend is available to buy in Britain. No US-only brands, no Amazon.com links, no irrelevant American pricing.
Properly researched
We check ingredient lists, read insurance policy documents in full, and verify claims against veterinary guidance before publishing anything.
Real UK prices
We include actual current prices and flag when a product's cost has changed. No vague ranges or out-of-date figures scraped from a US database.
No paid placements
We use affiliate links to keep the site running, but brands cannot pay to be featured or ranked higher. Our editorial decisions are entirely independent.
Real ownership experience
We own the breeds we write about. The challenges, the vet bills, the food fussiness — we've been through it, and it shows in the guides.
Kept up to date
We revisit guides regularly. Insurance premiums, food formulas and product availability all change — our guides should reflect the current reality.
Affiliate links & how we make money
PawGuide UK is a free resource. To keep it running, we use affiliate programmes — primarily Amazon Associates and Awin. When you click a link on our site and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Our affiliate relationships do not influence which products we recommend or how we rank them. We only link to products we would genuinely recommend to a friend. You can read our full affiliate disclosure here.
