What's coming for Rottweiler owners

Rottweilers are one of the UK's most loyal and misunderstood breeds. They're intelligent, devoted family dogs that thrive with the right owner — but they have specific needs around food, health, and training that generic dog guides rarely cover properly.

We're building a complete series of UK-specific Rottweiler guides, researched and written for British owners. Here's what's on the way:

About the Rottweiler breed

Rottweilers are a large, working breed originally developed in Germany as droving and guarding dogs. In the UK they've become popular family companions — known for their calm confidence, fierce loyalty, and surprisingly gentle nature with people they trust.

🐕 Rottweiler breed at a glance

  • Size: Large — males typically 50–60kg, females 35–48kg
  • Lifespan: 9–10 years on average
  • Exercise needs: High — minimum 2 hours per day
  • Common health issues: Hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, heart conditions (sub-aortic stenosis)
  • Coat: Short, dense double coat — moderate shedding
  • Good with children: Yes, with proper socialisation from puppyhood
  • Insurance cost (UK): Typically ÂĢ40–ÂĢ90/month for lifetime cover

One important note for UK Rottweiler owners — this breed falls under insurance breed restrictions at some providers. Always check the policy wording before purchasing, and opt for lifetime cover rather than annual or time-limited policies. Our insurance guide will cover this in full when it launches.
